We’ll typically start sessions at the trailhead parking area off Forker Road and work our way up the trail, stopping at locations with the best light and composition as we go. A standard one-hour session might cover a quarter to half a mile of trail at a relaxed pace — we’re not hiking for exercise, we’re moving through the landscape intentionally, stopping whenever the light or backdrop calls for it.
Depending on your session goals, we may set up in the forest section first while the light is still building, then move toward the open meadows and ridgeline as we approach golden hour. If you’re booking a two-hour session, we have time to reach the higher viewpoints and come back down through the forest for a second round in the warm fading light.
It’s worth noting that portions of the trail have moderate inclines. Nothing extreme, but we recommend wearing comfortable shoes with some grip — this is not a stiletto-and-cocktail-dress location (unless you really want to commit, and some couples do, and it’s amazing). Clothing for outdoor ridge sessions is slightly different from a groomed park or urban setting. Here are our top recommendations:
Footwear First — Start here. Closed-toe shoes with at least some grip are essential. Clean trail runners or leather hiking boots can actually photograph beautifully and make total sense in context. If you want to bring a pair of shoes to change into for some closer-up portraits, that works too — just know the ground may be uneven.
Layers for the Ridge — Even on a warm summer day, a ridge above 4,000 feet can have a breeze. Bring a light layer. A denim jacket, utility shirt, or soft knit can add visual interest to portraits and also keep you comfortable when we’re waiting for the light to hit just right.

Morning Sessions — Early morning sessions (7:00–9:00 AM) give you cooler temperatures, softer directional light from the east, and a trail that’s nearly empty of other hikers. The forest section photographs especially well in the gentle morning light filtering through the pines.
Fall Sessions — September and October sessions at Antoine Peak are stunning. The valley views take on a golden haze, the meadow grasses shift to amber, and the light arrives lower and softer. Fall sessions here are some of our most beautiful portrait work all year and they book early — start reaching out in August to secure an October date.
