Maternity Photography in Spokane: How to Celebrate This Beautiful Season of Life
There is something absolutely magical about the months leading up to meeting your baby. Your body is changing, your heart is expanding, and the anticipation in the air is unlike anything else in life. Maternity photography exists for exactly this reason — to freeze that magic in time before it passes.
If you’re expecting and live in or around Spokane, Washington, you’re in one of the most photogenic cities in the Pacific Northwest. From the rushing falls in Riverfront Park to the golden wheat fields stretching beyond the valley, Spokane gives maternity photographers an almost unfair advantage. And at Squeeky Door Productions, we take full advantage of every bit of it.
This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about booking a maternity session in Spokane — when to schedule it, what to wear, where to shoot, and how to get the most beautiful images of this season of your life.
When Is the Best Time for a Maternity Session?
Spokane and the surrounding area offer a stunning variety of backdrops for maternity sessions. Here are some of our favorites:
Riverfront Park — The iconic Spokane Falls and the park’s lush green spaces make Riverfront Park one of the most versatile outdoor locations in the city. Morning sessions here catch gorgeous soft light, and the sound of rushing water creates an incredibly peaceful atmosphere.
Manito Park — With its formal rose gardens, duck pond, and towering trees, Manito Park is a dream for maternity photography. Spring and early summer bring blooming flowers that complement almost any color palette. If you want that timeless, elegant look, Manito Park is hard to beat.
The Palouse Countryside — About 30 minutes south of Spokane, the rolling hills of the Palouse offer jaw-dropping wide-open landscapes. There is nothing quite like a silhouetted maternity portrait against that endless horizon at golden hour.
Bowl and Pitcher at Riverside State Park — Dramatic basalt rock formations, a suspension bridge, and the winding Spokane River create a rugged, adventurous backdrop perfect for couples who want something less traditional.
Indoor/Studio Sessions — Studio sessions allow for dramatic lighting setups, fine art-style images, and an especially comfortable environment. We can also shoot at your home for a lifestyle maternity session — perfect for capturing the nursery, partner interactions, or older children meeting the bump.
What to Wear for Your Maternity SessionA maternity session with Squeeky Door Productions typically runs 60 to 90 minutes. Here is what the experience looks like:
Arrival and wardrobe check. We will make sure everything looks great on camera and make any quick adjustments before we begin.
Guided posing. You do not need to know how to pose! We will guide you through every position, standing, sitting, cradling the belly, looking at your partner. Our goal is to make it feel natural, not stiff.
Golden hour magic. If your session is in the evening, we will time the final shots around that warm, glowing light that makes every photo look like a painting.
Gallery delivery. Within 2 to 3 weeks, you will receive a private online gallery with your fully edited, high-resolution images ready to download and print.
How to Include Your Partner and Family
Some of the most powerful maternity images are the intimate ones. A partner resting their head on the belly, a toddler giving the bump a kiss, hands intertwined over the growing life between you. Do not be afraid to include the people who make this season meaningful.
Some poses we love: partner wrapping arms around mom from behind, looking at each other with the belly as the centerpiece, a close-up of both hands cradling the bump together, an older sibling reading to the baby bump, and mom alone in a wide landscape shot emphasizing the contrast of new life in a big world.
